I’m Starting A YouTube Channel
I am pleased to announce that I have embarked on a personal challenge. In an effort to grow as a musician, I will be releasing a video on youtube every Sunday. Click here to subscribe to my channel.
I see three huge benefits from maintaining an active schedule of releases.
First, it challenges me to be a better musician. One of my worst foes as a musician is procrastination, I often find myself dreading practice time. However, I usually feel amazing after practicing. It’s the getting started part that is hard. To that end, a deadline is extremely helpful for motivation. There’s nothing like fear of public embarrassment to get you practicing! All kidding aside, I hope that this will be a positive experience focused on growth and discipline. It’s as simple (not necessarily easy) as getting out of bed early to practice, even when I don’t want to. I hope that my general skills will improve and that I learn new challenging repertoire.
Second, it allows me to learn a new skill set. It’s time to join 2020. With digital/social media becoming more and more ubiquitous, skills such as video production are more important than ever. I acknowledge that I have a lot to learn. What better time than the present to start? I see it as an investment in myself. Maybe I can make promotional videos for concerts or start a series of interviews with other artists in the future. I won’t have those skills unless I start practicing now.
Third, it allows me to stay connected with others. I’ve moved cities multiple times and I have family across the country. I can stay in touch and share music in one central location online. Hopefully some new friends join in and listen to some music as well.
See you Sunday morning!
